AREX Express vs Limousine Bus: Which Is Better From Incheon Airport to Seoul?

The right answer depends on where your hotel is. If you're near Seoul Station, take the AREX Express. If you're in Gangnam or Hongdae, take the limousine bus. The rest of this page covers everything else.
The Short Version
If your hotel is near Seoul Station, Myeongdong, or City Hall, the AREX Express gets you there in 43 minutes for ₩13,000.
If your hotel is in Gangnam, Hongdae, Dongdaemun, or anywhere that would require a subway transfer with luggage, take the limousine bus. It costs ₩17,000 and takes 60 to 90 minutes depending on traffic, but it drops you near your hotel without a transfer.
On a tight budget? The AREX All-Stop train is ₩4,150 to 5,350 and runs the same tracks as the Express, just with 13 stops instead of one.

Which Limousine Bus Goes to My Hotel?
This is what trips up most first-time visitors. Each route has a number, and the number is the difference between a 30-minute ride and a 2-hour one.
Before you fly, search your hotel name plus "airport limousine bus stop" on Naver Map or Google. Most major hotels have a stop within a 1- to 3-minute walk.
Take the AREX Express If…
Your hotel is in Myeongdong, City Hall, or walking distance from Seoul Station. You skip Seoul traffic and arrive in 43 minutes flat.
You're connecting to a KTX. All KTX lines south leave from Seoul Station, and AREX Express drops you in the same building. The bus doesn't.
You're traveling solo with one bag and want to save money. The AREX All-Stop, not the Express, costs roughly a third of any other option. It uses T-money. The trade-off is that you'll be on a regular subway with locals, possibly standing during rush hour.
Take the Limousine Bus If…
Your hotel is in Gangnam, Hongdae, Itaewon, or Dongdaemun. The AREX Express only goes to Seoul Station. From there you'd transfer to the subway and drag your luggage through underground corridors. Myeongdong and Dongdaemun stations are particularly rough, with many staircases and slow elevators. The bus avoids all of it.
You have two or more large suitcases. The driver opens the luggage compartment, takes your bags, and hands you a paper claim tag. You walk on with empty hands. When you arrive, you give the tag back and the driver pulls your bags out for you. On AREX, you handle everything yourself.
You're traveling with young kids or older family members. A single seated ride with no transfers is worth ₩4,000 more per person.
Arriving After 10:48 PM
The AREX Express closes around 10:48 PM. Most regular limousine routes also wind down between 10:40 and 11:00 PM. After that:
N6001 runs to Seoul Station via Dongdaemun. Buy a ticket at the kiosk. Roughly midnight to 4 AM.
N6000 runs to Gangnam Express Bus Terminal on the same schedule.
AREX All-Stop runs slightly later than the Express, until about 11:38 PM. T-money works.
Taxi or Uber is the last resort. Expect ₩70,000 to ₩100,000+ depending on destination, plus a ₩7,900 expressway toll added to the meter. Uber accepts foreign cards directly in the app, which is the simplest option if you don't speak Korean.
If you can adjust your flight to land before 10 PM, that's the easier path.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
Very early departures. First AREX Express leaves Terminal 1 around 5:20 AM. First limousine buses leave between 4:30 and 5:00 AM depending on the route. A 6 AM flight usually means a taxi.
Asiana moved to Terminal 2 on January 14, 2026. Check your terminal before you choose your transport. Terminal 2 adds about 8 minutes to the AREX Express journey.
Family discount on the return trip. Most major limousine routes offer one free fare per family group when traveling Seoul to Incheon (the return direction). Tell the driver when boarding.
How to Actually Buy the Tickets
AREX Express. Follow the orange signs in the basement (B1) at either terminal. Buy at the staffed counter, which accepts foreign credit cards reliably. The self-service kiosks often decline non-Korean cards. Or buy online in advance through Klook or KKday for 12 to 15 percent off, then exchange the QR voucher at the kiosk.
Limousine bus. Buy your ticket at the kiosk before going outside to the bus berth. Korean highway law requires assigned seating on highway-going buses, which means you can't tap T-money at the door at the airport. (You can on the return trip from the city.) The kiosks are inside the arrivals hall (1F) or near the bus berths, accept foreign cards, and have an English menu. Search your destination, pick a time, pay, and walk to the berth printed on your ticket. Hand your luggage to the driver and keep the claim tag somewhere you won't lose it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a foreign credit card to buy these tickets?
Yes for both. The AREX self-service kiosks sometimes reject foreign cards, so use the staffed counter to be safe. The limousine bus kiosks generally accept foreign cards without trouble.
Can I use T-money or the Climate Card for AREX Express?
No. AREX Express requires a separate QR ticket. T-money works on the AREX All-Stop and on subway lines, but not on the Express.
What happens if I miss the AREX Express I booked?
The ticket goes invalid the moment the train leaves. To recover it, visit the Information Counter at the station and pay a ₩3,500 penalty for a new ticket. If you booked online and realize before departure, change the time on the AREX app or website. The first change is free.
Where exactly do I board the limousine bus at Incheon Airport?
At Terminal 1, the bus berths are outside on the 1F arrivals floor at ground level. At Terminal 2, the berths are on B1, not the ground floor. Your ticket lists the berth number.
Is AREX Express the same as the regular airport subway line?
No. AREX Express runs non-stop to Seoul Station with reserved seats and luggage racks. The AREX All-Stop is a regular subway with 13 stops, open seating, and T-money payment. Both run on the same tracks. The orange signage marks Express.
