Incheon Airport to Seoul: Every Option, Honestly Compared
AREX, limousine bus, taxi, or subway — each option has a different trade-off. Here's what foreign visitors actually need to know.
Most first-time visitors to Korea land at Incheon International Airport and immediately face the same question: how do I get to Seoul?
The airport is about 60km from central Seoul. There are four main options — AREX express train, limousine bus, regular subway, and taxi. Each one makes sense for a different type of traveler. This guide breaks them down without the fluff.
AREX Express — Fastest to City Center
The Airport Railroad Express (AREX) has two services: the Express Train and the All-Stop Train.
The Express Train runs non-stop from Incheon Airport Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 directly to Seoul Station. Journey time is 43 minutes. It runs every 30 minutes and operates from around 5:20am to 11:40pm.
Tickets cost ₩11,000 one-way. You can buy at the station using a foreign Visa or Mastercard. No Korean phone number needed.
Best for: travelers staying near Seoul Station, Myeongdong, or anywhere on subway line 1. Not ideal if your hotel is in Gangnam or Hongdae — you'll need a subway transfer.
Limousine Bus — Best for Heavy Luggage
The KAL Limousine and other airport bus services drop you off directly at major hotel zones across Seoul — Gangnam, Hongdae, Sinchon, Dongdaemun, and more.
Journey time is 60–90 minutes depending on traffic and destination. Fares range from ₩17,000 to ₩18,000. You can book in advance through Klook or pay at the bus stop with a foreign card.
Best for: travelers with heavy luggage, families, or anyone staying in areas not well-connected to Seoul Station. The door-to-hotel convenience is worth the extra cost.
AREX All-Stop — Cheapest Rail Option
The All-Stop AREX is the same train line but stops at every station between the airport and Seoul Station. Journey time is about 66 minutes.
Tickets cost ₩4,150 — significantly cheaper than the express. You can use a T-money card or buy a single-journey ticket at the machine.
Best for: budget travelers who don't mind the extra time and are comfortable with the subway system.
Taxi — Most Convenient, Most Expensive
Regular taxis from Incheon to central Seoul cost approximately ₩65,000–₩90,000 depending on traffic and destination. Kakao Taxi works for foreigners if you have a foreign number or use the international version.
Deluxe taxis (black) are about 20% more expensive but more spacious.
Best for: late-night arrivals, travelers with a lot of luggage, or groups where splitting the fare makes sense.
Quick Comparison
What About Terminal 2?
If you're flying with Korean Air, Delta, Air France, or KLM, you'll arrive at Terminal 2. The AREX Express stops at both terminals. The limousine bus also serves Terminal 2 from a separate stop outside the arrivals hall.
Allow extra time if you need to transfer between terminals — the shuttle bus takes about 15–18 minutes.
For most foreign visitors, the AREX Express is the default answer — fast, affordable, and no booking required. If you have heavy luggage or your hotel is far from Seoul Station, the limousine bus is worth the extra cost.
Whatever you choose, all of these options accept foreign cards and don't require a Korean phone number.
