Best Korea eSIM for a Short Trip (Under 2 Weeks)

For trips under 2 weeks, a data-only eSIM is the simplest option. Here's which one to get, what to watch out for, and how to set it up before you board.

The most common connectivity mistake foreign visitors make is assuming their home plan's international roaming is good enough, or waiting until they land to figure it out. Both cause unnecessary stress. An eSIM takes 10 minutes to set up and means you have data the moment you walk off the plane.

What you actually need

For most trips to Korea, a data-only eSIM is all you need. You keep your home SIM active for calls, and use the Korean eSIM for data. The exception: if you need a Korean phone number for SMS verification (for some apps and services), you'll need a physical SIM — but most foreign visitors don't hit this.

Airalo: easiest for most people

Airalo is the most popular international eSIM provider and works well for Korea. Their Korea SK plan starts from $12 for 1GB/7 days, scaling up to $35 for 20GB/30 days. The app is polished, setup is guided step-by-step, and support is actually responsive.

Install before you board. The QR code is in your email; scan it in Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM.

Klook eSIM: good if you're already booking activities

If you're using Klook to book tours or experiences in Korea anyway, their eSIM is convenient to add to the same order. Coverage and speeds are comparable to Airalo. Prices can be lower for shorter durations.

Things to check before you buy

1. Your phone must support eSIM. Most iPhones from XR (2018) and newer do. For Android, check Settings → Network → SIM — if there's an 'Add eSIM' option, you're set.

2. Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. If you got it through a carrier contract and haven't unlocked it, contact your carrier first.

3. Install before you fly. You need Wi-Fi or existing data to download the eSIM profile.

Once you're in Korea

Your eSIM should connect automatically when you land. If it doesn't: toggle airplane mode on and off, check that data roaming is enabled for the Korean eSIM line, and make sure that eSIM is selected as your data line in Settings. Most issues resolve in 60 seconds with these three steps.
